Hineni – Here I am

When your moment comes, will you hear the call? It was a single moment in which Moses became the leader.

One day, as he is herding the sheep, he noticed a burning bush not being consumed. He stopped to look. G-d saw that he stopped and called Moses! Moses!

Moses replies “Hineni!” I am ready, here I am.

That is when G-d tasks him with leading the liberation and becoming the greatest leader of all times. Many others may have passed the burning bush, but went on with their lives, not taking notice. Moses was attentive and rose to the challenge.

In life, many of us do not turn to see the never-ending flame: we do not want to break stride and be disturbed. We rather keep the status quo. However, the lesson from Moses is to be ready, so when we are called, we respond and rise up.

These moments define our lives and give it meaning.

Do not be preoccupied with the myriad of distractions in our lives: Hear the call. When called upon, step up, make a difference, be a leader: declare unequivocally “Hineni”. here I am. I am ready, My Lord.
