Parshat Pinchas
We often measure progress by how quickly we arrive.
The faster the results, the more successful we believe we’ve been.
The Torah offers a different perspective.
As Moses prepares to say goodbye, he asks God to appoint the next leader of the Jewish people.
His request is surprising.
He doesn’t ask for the wisest leader.
Or the strongest.
He asks for someone who can lead the people forward without leaving them behind.
By the end of his life, Moses understands something profound.
Knowing where to go is only part of the journey.
Growth doesn’t fail because we aim too high.
It often fails because we expect to get there too fast.
Lasting progress also requires moving at a pace that people can sustain.
Perhaps the same is true in our own lives.
We often want immediate change.
Immediate growth.
Immediate results.
But lasting transformation is rarely built that way.
The destination matters.
But it is the direction we choose each day, and the pace that allows us to keep moving, that ultimately determine where we arrive.
Real growth is built through small, faithful choices, repeated over time.
As Shabbat approaches, may we be blessed with the clarity to choose the right direction, the patience to grow at a sustainable pace, and the courage to keep taking the next faithful step.
