Parshat Va’etchanan
Few questions shape our lives more than the search for purpose.
We wonder whether we’re on the right path.
Whether we’ve found what we’re meant to do.
Whether purpose is still somewhere ahead of us.
As Moses prepares the Jewish people to enter the Land of Israel, he doesn’t tell them to go looking for their purpose. Instead, he reminds them of the purpose they’ve already been entrusted with.
Perhaps that’s why the Torah spends so much less time asking us to discover ourselves than it does asking us to remember.
Purpose isn’t something we need to search for.
It’s something we’ve already been entrusted with.
Remember who you are.
Remember what you’ve been given.
Remember what you’re part of.
Purpose isn’t something we need to search for.
We’ve already been entrusted with it.
Our calling is to live it.
As Shabbat approaches, may we have the clarity to recognize the purpose already entrusted to us, the courage to live it faithfully, and the peace that comes from remembering that our lives are already part of something greater.
