Parshat Yitro
When Yitro comes to visit Moses, he brings something powerful: clarity.
He watches Moses spend the entire day carrying the needs, questions, and conflicts of the people — alone. And he offers a new way forward:
Build a structure where responsibility is shared. Appoint capable people. Create a system where more voices are heard and more hands can carry.
Yitro’s insight goes deeper than efficiency. He understands that this is how a community becomes healthy.
Shared responsibility isn’t a compromise — it’s how people grow together.
When leadership is shared, something shifts. People feel seen. Patience becomes possible. Conflicts can be held with care. And the Torah says the result is peace — because people don’t just receive decisions; they experience being heard.
That wisdom reaches far beyond Moses.
Most of us aren’t leading a nation — but many of us are carrying more than we need to carry alone. Not because we’re failing, but because life gets heavy when everything rests on one set of shoulders.
Yitro reminds us that strength isn’t only independence. Strength is also building real support: trusted people, shared responsibility, and relationships that make life more whole.
As Shabbat comes in, may we make space for that kind of support — giving it, receiving it, and remembering that we grow stronger through connection, not isolation.
